A group of Hollywood hopefuls who dreamed of making it big on the silver screen or working in the movie magic of Hollywood find themselves serving up comedy, adventure —and extra butter—at a legendary Chinese-themed movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard.
The Premise
Welcome to the BaoMiHua Theatre, a lavish, intricately designed cinema planted directly on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. Every day, tourists flock to its grand, golden-ceilinged auditoriums to experience the magic of the movies. But behind the concession stand is a crew of cynical, passionate, and slightly stale dreamers who are stuck watching the magic from the sidelines.
The staff consists of aspiring actors, frustrated set builders, unproduced screenwriters, and struggling stand-up comics who came to LA to be in the movies, not to clean up after them.
The Setting
The theater itself is practically a main character. Parodying iconic Hollywood Boulevard landmarks, the BaoMiHua Theatre boasts stunning, elaborate Chinese architecture. From the palm-tree-lined entrance with its sweeping tiled roofs to the concession stand framed by intricate wooden murals, the grandeur of the building stands in hilarious, stark contrast to the petty, everyday workplace squabbles of the popcorn crew working inside it.
